Frequently Asked Questions

Im feeling pretty nervous, what should I do?

Trust us! We were all nervous the first time diving! At Salty Boogers, we have unlimited freedom to take it slow and make sure you are comfortable. There is no rush and no pressure. We want you to have a fun time and experience scuba diving at your own pace.

Will I earn a certification to dive again?

You will NOT earn a certification after completing only the DSD experience. You ARE welcome to come dive with us again within one week and we can skip the practice sessions and get right out diving on the reef. This is an excellent way to gain experience if you are not quite ready to get certified or you are limited on time.

How can I credit this toward my certification?

It is possible to earn credit for the first day of your Open Water Diver certification. To do this, you would need to learn a few extra skills in the shallow water near the beach and then demonstrate a small number of skills out on a real dive. This is a little extra work compared to a normal DSD, but you would earn credit towards your certification course. You could then either finish the course with us, or we could give you a referral form that is valid for 12 months to continue the course with any other PADI dive instructor.

Another excellent option is to complete the PADI Scuba Diver certification. This requires less time to complete than to Open Water Diver course, but you do earn a lifetime certification as a Scuba Diver. To earn this certification you would have to complete three chapters of the PADI E-Learning and come back for one more day of diving. You could then upgrade to the full Open Water Diver certification at any point in the future.

How deep will we go?

We will only go as deep as you are comfortable!

The maximum depth for confined water training is 10-20 feet.
The maximum depth for the open water dive is 20-40 feet.

Whats should I bring?

Just bring a good attitude and the willingness to learn! We recommend wearing your bathing suit under a t-shirt in the morning and bringing a rash guard or quick-dry shirt to wear into the water. Consider bringing a water bottle, snack, towel and change of clothes.

Where will we do the course?

The introduction and safety briefing will be conducted right on the beach in West End, Roatan. We will then conduct a short training dive in the shallow waters right at the edge of the beach. After making sure everyone is feeling comfortable and confident, we will take a very short boat ride to one of Roatan's shallow dive sites on the Mesoamerican reef.
